Fe 16 Football Championship SF vs St Michaels Sat Oct 8th

Played in Carrigaline this was an absolute cracking contest. Nemo started brightly and right from the throw in, in a sweeping move, they had the ball in the back of the net. They were soon 5 points up. But St Michaels started to play some lovely football and they rattled off point after point. Adding in some great goals they totally overwhelmed Nemo and were 2-09 to 1-03 up at the break. Worse was to come from Nemo as they conceded another major at the start of the second half. Incredibly they were 11 points behind after starting so well. But they kept plugging away and a couple of great goals from Mark Cronin hauled them back into the game. Incredibly they managed to draw level. Final score was 6-08 to 3-17. Extra time loomed. And in extra time St Michaels were well on top. The efforts of hauling back the 11 point lead told on the Nemo boys and St Michaels won extra time 1-04 to 0-02. In an incredible contest that yielded 10 goals St Michaels were deserved winners on a score line of 4-21 to 6-10. Nemo can hold their heads high after an incredible performance but we must say well done to St Michaels who were the better team on the day. We wish them well in the final.

Fe 15 Football Championship 1st Round vs Valley Rovers Sat Oct 15th

The Fe 15 boys travelled to Brinny for the 1st round of their championship. The initial exchanges were very close with the teams swapping points twice. Then Scott Phillpott scored a goal when he pulled on the ball off the ground from the 20 meter line. It flew into the top corner – a goal a professional soccer player would be proud of. This initiated a purple spell for Nemo. Two more goals followed by Patrick Campbell. This left a 10 point gap between the teams. But Valley rallied and scored 1-03 without reply before half time to leave just 4 points between the teams. This was a fairer reflection of the first half. The second half opened brightly for Valley and soon there was just a kick of a ball between the sides. But with Eoin Nation excellent in defense and the tireless work rate of Robbie Shalou in midfield Nemo began to get on top. Robert Dillon’s surging runs from center forward were causing Valley Rovers serious problems and soon the scores came for Nemo. In the end they ran out comfortable winners on a final score of 5-12 to 2-08. The score line somewhat flattered them as for long periods the game was very close. It was really only in the last 10 minutes that Nemo sealed the win. They now face Mallow in the quarter final scheduled to be played next weekend.

Indeed things got a lot worse early in the second half and they were soon 12 points behind. But the girls rallied and scoring some great goals they got right back into the game. But well done to the Nemo girls for the great comeback and for a great season.
