Minor Football Activity

The minors were busy with league games over the last month as they continued their preparations for round 2 of the championship. First the C3 team had an away tie against Ballincollig on July 16th. This was a very good and open game of football with some very good attacking play from both sides. Unfortunately for Nemo they came out on the wrong side of a 3-08 to 2-10 score line. Next for the minors was a P1 league game at home to St Finbarrs on Friday July 19th. This was a very close affair with the sides level several times in the first half. At half time Nemo led by 2 points. The second half followed the same pattern as the first with nothing really between the sides until late in the game Nemo struck for a rocket of a goal from substitute Kevin Looney. This gave Nemo a cushion and they tacked on a few more points to run out winners on a score line of 1-15 to 0-12. The P1 team then faced Douglas in their final league game on July 24th. Played in Douglas both sides were somewhat understrength on account of vacations etc. But nonetheless they both played some very good open football. Douglas were that bit stronger and ran out deserved winners of a score line of 3-13 to 2-05. With their league complete, Nemo finished in top spot qualifying them for the league knock out stages. The C3 team completed their league campaign with a home tie against St Finbarrs. An excellent performance by both teams and a very close contest ensued. Late in the game St Finbarrs managed to tack on some good points to give them the spoils on a score line of 1-10 to 1-07. With the C3 team’s league completed now, they finished in a respectable mid table position.

Next for the minors was round 2 of the championship against Carrigaline in Ballygarvan on Aug 3rd. This was a game that Nemo struggled to get to grips with early on. They missed several gilt-edge goal opportunities in the first 15 minutes, and this meant they went in at the break 2 points behind. They started the 2nd half very brightly and scored two fast goals to put them in the driving seat. But Carrigaline never panicked and they scored some great points to reel in the Nemo lead. Nemo scored a third goal to once again put some daylight between the teams but once again Carrigaline reeled the lead in with well taken points. With 2 minutes to go Nemo led by the minimum. Carrigaline had two great chances to equalize but both shots went wide. So, Nemo won in a nervy finish on a score line of 3-08 to 0-16. A relieved nemo team who can now look forward to a county semi final in September. Plenty for the team to work on in the interim.

Fe 16 Football Activity

The Fe 16 boys played Carbery Rangers on the 15th of July in the P2 league. Played in Trabeg this was a very entertaining and high scoring game. The sides were level on several occasions and both teams took some great scores. In the end Carbery prevailed on a score line of 3-14 to 1-16. A very good performance by the Nemo boys. They then turned their attention to the championship where they lined out against a very strong Ballygarvan team in Carrigaline on the 22nd of July. This was a game where everything went wrong for Nemo. Loosing key players through injury before and during the game did not help. Lots of wides and missed opportunities throughout the game by Nemo. On the other hand, Ballygarvan were excellent and they played a lovely brand of attacking football with great team inter-play on view. Ballygarvan won well on the night overturning the result in the recent league game between the same sides. Hard luck to the Nemo boys and well done to Ballygarvan who we wish well for the rest of the championship.

Fe 15 Football Activity

The Fe 15 footballers continued their league campaign with a P1 game away to Ballincollig on the 17th of July. In a tight game Nemo were that bit sharper in front of goal and they ran out deserved winners on a score line of 3-07 to 1-05. The following night the C3 team played Douglas away from home. Despite a game showing by the Nemo boys Douglas recorded a comfortable win in this one. The P1 team then turned their attention to their final league game of the year – a home tie against Douglas. The boys needed a result to top the league. In a great game of football both sides gave everything. There was never more than a kick of a ball between the teams. It was fitting that Nemo scored a late equalizer to draw the game 2-09 to 3-06 as in truth neither team deserved to lose. This meant that Nemo were joint top with St Finbarrs. And given that Nemo defeated the Barrs in their head to head game it means that Nemo have won the league. Well done to all involved. The boys played some great football over the course of the league and are worthy league champions.

Girls Fe 15 Football Activity

The girl’s Fe 15 football team played several games in the summer league over the course of the last month. On the 12th of July they played Douglas at home and recorded a well-deserved 1-07 to 1-05 win. This was a great game with never more then a kick of a ball between the teams. Next up they played Eire Og away on the 23rd of July. With a weakened team, Nemo were always going to struggle against a very good Eire Og team. They tried very hard on the night, but Eire Og proved that bit stronger and they recorded a comfortable win.

Girls Fe 13 Football Activity

The Fe 13 girls football team have been participating in their Summer League. On the 13th of July they took on Carrigaline at home. Both teams played some great attacking football with goals flying in at both ends. In the end Nemo recorded a 6-08 to 5-04 win. Well done to both sets of players for the great entertainment they provided. Next up for the girls was Naomh Aban on the 18th of July. Another great game but this time the Nemo girls’ radar was a bit off. They scored some cracking goals but their point taking was off. In the end they lost 3-13 to 5-01. Next up was St Vals on the 24th of July at home. This was a very low scoring affair with defences on top. In a tight game the Nemo girls just lost out by a point 2-02 to 2-01. The girls finished their Summer league with a game against Eire Og on August the 1st. The game was played in Ovens. Eire Og were excellent and recorded a comfortable win. A great 4 games for the Nemo girls who were available during the Summer. This will benefit them greatly later in the year.

Girls Fe 11 Football Activity

The Fe 11 girls also took part in their Summer league. They started on July the 11th with an away game against Ballincollig. They lost this game by a few points. Next, they played Carrigaline on the 26th of July in Trabeg. In an exciting game of football, the young Nemo girls came out on top. They played some great football in this game.
