Nemo Rangers into league final but more importantly blooded new wave of players

...
Larry Kavanagh is back as a selector with his beloved club

AFTER experiencing life at the helm of Nemo Rangers, Larry Kavanagh is now been part of the coaching staff under manager Robbie O’Dwyer.

Like many of his former teammates giving something back to his beloved club is important to him. A winner of four senior county medals with the club Kavanagh, along with his brothers Derek and Joe, was a pivotal player. Right now it's all been part of a team in his selectorial role.

“I am enjoying working with the lads and to finish the league on a winning note was a job well done by all concerned,” he said.

Kavanagh insists Nemo were not looking at having a tremendous league campaign with so many players absent from last year’s panel.

“I don’t think we set out to take the league by storm but the lads have done very well in the manner they closed out games,” he added.

Blooding new players is what the Nemo management team set out to do with success.

Our manager is good in the sense he has plenty of patience and some players have put themselves back in the mix for selection come championship time.

“The good thing for us is that we are in the final and that gives us an extra game during the five-week break so that will do us the world of good going forward.”

The start of the league was tough.

“We had an intermediate team in some games but you would have to commend the players in the manner they approached all games and their efforts were thankfully rewarded.”

Nemo have a style that is the envy of many and that’s not going to change anytime soon.

“The lads are coached to a system and you could see today with the subs we brought in nothing changes as our shape remains the same.”

This season with Waterville-born Robbie O’Dwyer at the helm the Nemo camaraderie remains solid.

“There is good banter with the lads and we keep it as relaxed as we can because the lads are very serious when they cross the white line for games and being a little chilled before games is always good for them."

DEDICATED

When you are part of a Nemo team playing at the top tier the demands are high.

They train five times a week and that takes dedication but the players love it and thankfully we have magnificent facilities.”
The championship draw for Nemo are the games they have been focusing on all season.

“We have Newcestown, Ballincollig and Éire Óg and our philosophy is simple because we know teams will naturally rise their game against us and having them ready for battle is what it’s all about.”

Various players have stood out in the league but in Ross Corkery they have unearthed another potential ace in the pack.

“We didn’t see Ross for the first four or five games as he was involved with the Cork U21 side but when he returned we immediately saw his class and yes he is a quality player.

“We have Paul Kerrigan also doing very well but overall at Nemo it’s all about team and not individuals and hopefully we can have another good season.”
