Kiskeam sur­vive nervy fin­ish to see off late Nemo Rangers charge

Kiskeam sur­vived a nervy fin­ish to over­come Nemo Rangers in a lively tie at Kiskeam. Both sides con­trib­uted to excel­lent pas­sages of action, the out­come going right down to the wire.

Ulti­mately, a Seán O’Sul­li­van goal proved cru­cial in the open­ing half yet Nemo came ever so close to snatch­ing a late equal­iser only for Ross Cork­ery’s effort for a two pointer hit the upright and away to safety for a relieved home side.

A few minutes earlier, the former county under­age player rose an orange flag to ensure a lively fin­ish. However, Kiskeam hung on for a win they just about deserved.

O’Sul­li­van’s goal gave Kiskeam the per­fect plat­form only for Nemo to respond with a two pointer from Shane Buckley in addi­tion to flags for Conor Shal­loe and Cork­ery helped secure a nar­row lead. Both sides enjoyed spells of pres­sure, Shane O’Riordan and Mac­u­ley Cronin point­ing for Kiskeam.

Though Cork­ery squared up the con­test, O’Sul­li­van edged Kiskeam ahead 1-5 to 0-7 at the break.

Nemo laid down a marker on the restart, Dara O’Sul­li­van and Conor O’Donovan post­ing three points. Kiskeam found them­selves on the back­foot only to respond pos­it­ively through the graft­ing play of John Ang­land, Kieran O’Con­nor, Gene Casey and Maurice Casey. A run of points from O’Riordan, Maurice Casey and O’Sul­li­van pushed Kiskeam 1-10 to 0-10 to the good.

Nemo weren’t done, Cork­ery hit a mighty two pointer to leave the min­imum between the sides. Though O’Sul­li­van replied with a Kiskeam point, a close fin­ish saw Cork­ery come ever so close to snatch­ing an equal­iser.
