Minor Camogie Team continue winning run in Championship

...
Nemo Rangers 5-12 (27 pts) Bishopstown 4-10 (22 pts)

Nemo Minor Camogie Team continued their 100% record in this years Championship by defeating an excellent Bishopstown side at a sun kissed away pitch on Wednesday night last before a large crowd.

Bishopstown got off to a better start with their pace and stickwork troubling the Nemo girl and they raced into a 4 point lead quickly.

Full forward Cassandra Fitzgerald opened the Nemo scoring with a point from play and Caoimhe Power followed up with 2 points from frees.

The pace of the game was immense and goalie Meadhbh O Connell was busy in the first half.

Some positional changes for Nemo improved matters for our girls but Bishopstown nipped in for a goal to lead heading towards the half time whistle but Power kept Nemo in touch from frees adding 4 vital clutch points from all distances.

A break then for Nemo when Cassandra Fitzgerald availing of good work from Rebbeca Murphy in the corner, slammed the ball to the Bishopstown net with score at half time ending 1-7 to 1- 6 in favour of Nemo.

Both teams went at it hammer and tongs in the 2 nd half but Nemos half back line of Ava Heaphy & the Collins sisters Saoirse & Katelynn really came to the fore in the face of fierce pressure from the opposition.

Aoife Collins who was doing her usual trojan work around the middle of the field then got through for a vital and brilliant individual goal early in the second half.

The teams went score for score with Bishopstown bagging 2 quick goals as the Nemo backs struggled to contain their forwards.

Goalie Meadhbh O Connell however thwarted everything Bishopstown was throwing at her making some outstanding saves with full back Mia O Callaghan also playing strongly around the square.

Both teams went score for score with Power nailing 2 more frees before Fitzgerald bagged another goal for Nemo and quickly added 2 more points from play.

With 20 minutes remaining Bishopstown were getting the whip-hand but the introduction of Laura Buckley (who has been out of the game for the past 12 months) sparked new life into Nemo and gave her teammates a huge lift by her on field presence alone.

Time was whittling down and Bishopstown were up 5 points when Buckley stepped up getting into space and pinging a perfect pass to Fitzgerald who finished to the Bishopstown net again with aplomb. Nemo back in the game !!

Score v score continued with Caoimhe Power bagging 4 more vital frees before Laura Buckley embellished her comeback by taking a ball at pace on the 40 beating a number of players and driving through the Bishopstown defensive cover and slamming the ball to the net'

Nemo up by 5 points.

The whole team knuckled down for the last 4 minutes and dug in with Nemo running out winners by 5-12 to 4-10.

This was super Team performance led strongly by Captain on the night Ciara Moroney Whilst the girls have played better in the past they showed huge desire ,courage and attitude to take the spoils.

The win puts Nemo on top of their group with final game to be played against Banteer in Nemo in the next few weeks with a place in the County Semi Final at stake.

It was great to see 21 girls togged out for Nemo on the night , from ages 15 to 18 and it augers well for the future of camogie within the Club.

Thanks to a gallant Bishopstown side for a very sporting game and to referee Brian Barret who did an excellent job.

Thanks also to all the Parents for keeping their daughters interested in this squad and for all the support, as it means a lot to the Team and the Selectors.

Scorers for Nemo: Cassandra Fitzgerald 3-4 , Caoimhe Power 8 points , Aoife Collins 1 goal , Laura Buckley 1 goal.
