Nemo will be weary of familiar foe

Nemo and Douglas go into the second round of the McCarthy Insurance Group Senior Football Championship with wins over Ballincollig and St. Michael's respectively. While the Nemo Ballincollig game was a tight affair, Douglas had a very impressive win over St. Michael's. Douglas also got the better of Nemo in the McCarthy Insurance Group Division 1 Football League earlier this year.
While Pairc Ui Rinn is a happy stomping ground for Nemo, having lost only 5 times in 52 games there, the loss to Douglas in 2021 will be fresh in the mind of Nemo players and management. Of course, the 2008 victory in the County Final over Douglas to win Nemo's 17th County title will also be a motivating factor.
Nemo will be fighting for a 24th title this year, but the focus for now will be on securing a second round victory over Douglas.
Nemo have played Douglas 9 times in the Cork Senor Football Championship, winning 7, drawing on one occasion in Round 4 in 2015, a game that Nemo went on to win the replay, and losing their last encounter in Round 3 of the group stage in 2021.
Paul Kerrigan, who is carrying an injury at the moment, is the top scorer for Nemo over Douglas in the Cork Senor Football Championship, scoring 2 goals and 22 points in 8 appearances against them. Will we see Kerrigan line out in this second round clash.
Nemo had a big boost in the first round with the return of Kieran Histon to the back line after he returned from Australia. They will be relying on Mark Cronin to lead the line, who will be ably assisted by Bryan Hayes who impressed in the first round and goes into the second round as joint top scorer from play with a tally of 1 goal and 3 points.
Douglas manager Paudie Kissane will be hoping for a big performance from Conor Russell who scored 8 points in the first round. He will also be hoping to have the services of Sean Powter who went off injured in that match.
Friday evenings clash at Pairc Ui Rinn will be an intriguing encounter for the local rivals.
